Green Card for USA through Immediate Relative

Obtaining green card for USA can be through family sponsorship. It is described as foreign nationals who wish to become lawful permanent residents ("green card" holders) of the United States based on the fact that they have an immediate relative who is a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident. This requires a multi-step process to gain green card for USA.

The vast majority of foreign nationals who become green card for USA holders of the United States are able to do so because their immediate relatives who are United States citizens or permanent residents petition them. A person seeking to assist an immediate relative in getting a green card for USA in becoming a permanent resident of the United States is called the petitioner. The person trying to obtain a green card for USA to become a resident is called the beneficiary.

USCIS does however limit the number of family-based immigrants in certain categories each year. Relatives in these "preference categories" (included in e-kit) must wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once their petition is approved, and the waiting period may sometimes be several years. Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens - parents, spouses, and children under the age of 21, do not have to wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once their petition is approved.
