What is the U.S. Green Card Lottery? Each year the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery program grants 50,000 permanent resident visas ("green cards") to individuals who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. This official U.S. government program aims to diversify the United States population by creating an immigration opportunity for under-represented groups. Properly completed entries are entered into a computer-generated lottery and winners are randomly selected. Winners and their family members are able to live, work, and study in the United States! How do I enter the lottery? There are two ways to enter the Diversity Visa Lottery. The first is through the U.S. Department of State website. The second is through a professional immigration service, such as U.S. Green Card Services. U.S. Department of State WebsiteEntry via the U.S. Department of State website is free. See the U.S. Department of State Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Instructions for more information. Advantages of a Professional Immigration Service

Consider using a professional immigration service company to be sure your entry makes it into the lottery. If your entry is rejected, you lose the chance to win. Immigration Direct recommends What happens after I enter?DV Lottery winners will be notified via U.S. mail between May and July of the year following entry.
