It is apparently obvious that Immigration Reformwill not happen in Washington D.C. in the current political climate. Therefore, individual states have taken up the matter. But with this comes a diverse scope of nationwide legislation that tries to address Immigration Reform. At one end, you have backward looking legislation, such as Arizona's SB 1070, that is controversial and divisive and in no way helpful in addressing the issue of Immigration Reform.

While the DREAM Act at the federal level seems to be going nowhere, state legislatures seem to be forging forward in creating state versions of the DREAM Act. The State of Maryland will soon vote on bill that if enacted, would allow undocumented high school graduates to pay in-state college tuition.

I wonder what was going though Representative Peter King (R-NY) mind when he had the idea to hold congressional hearings on Muslims and radicalization. This echoes the notorious hearings held by Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950's when he was chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Operations, accusing a large number of people of being Communists and Soviet spies. His hearings resulted in the destruction of the careers and the lives of many innocent U.S. Citizens.
