The B-1/B-2 Visa is used by foreign visitors who enter the U.S. for a temporary period for business or pleasure. A B-1/B-2 visa is generally valid for six months and can be extended once the visa holder is in the U.S.

Qualifying B-1/B-2 visa holders are even authorized to adjust status to Lawful Permanent Resident (apply for a Green Card) after they have entered the U.S. Because of this, individuals who would otherwise be eligible to enter the U.S. without a visa (pursuant to the Visa Waiver Program) may choose to go through the process of applying for a B-1/B-2 visa instead.
