Answer:

There are an estimated 36,000 bi-national married couples in the U.S that could apply for same-sex marriage green cards.

The same-sex marriage green card is now available for U.S. citizens and permanent residents who wish to request green cards for their foreign national spouses. The legal advocacy group Immigration Equality estimates that 36,000 could be affected by the recent Supreme Court decision to grant immigration benefits to same-sex marriages.

Denying immigration benefits to same-sex marriages is now considered to be unconstitutional.
