With less than 20 working days left until the year is up, Obama and immigration reform supporters are stepping up their efforts to try and effect change.
Obama will be holding Roosevelt Room meeting, with the White House staying quiet on who precisely the attendees will be.
Press Secretary Jay Carney has hinted that the meeting will be used to show support that provided by both political parties and many business, too.
In a statement to reporters, he said: “Immigration reform will reduce the deficit by $850 billion over the first 20 years. It’s good for the economy and the right thing to do. We hope the House will follow the Senate and take action.”
Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona supported him. He said: “I think that we’ve got a good shot at a breakthrough here. The House can move this as fast as they want if they decide to do this. There is time and space on the calendar between now and the end of the year, if we decide we can do it.”
