Immigration Fact of the Week Dec. 6

agricultural workerQuestion:

Will immigrants drain Social Security?

Answer: The opposite, actually! Immigrants would pay more into Social Security than they would take out.

If we assume that roughly 85% of undocumented immigrants are able to gain legal status and citizenship after reform is passed, then immigrants will contribute over $600 billion over the next 36 years to Social Security. This is also when retiring Baby Boomers will be placing a great strain on the service, making the aid that undocumented immigrants could provide if legalized almost a necessity.
