The E-Verify Program to See An Increase in Funding

All employers are required to verify the identity and employment eligibility of everyone hired in the United States. Some employers use the E-Verify program (a web-based service) to do this verification. In fact, employers use E-Verify at more than one million hiring sites in the U.S. to verify new workers’ employment eligibility.

The E-Verify Program will be receiving $112 million in this year’s budget. The FY 2013 budget includes funding to support the expansion of the E-Verify Self Check program, which is a voluntary, free, fast and secure online service that allows individuals in the U.S. to check their employment eligibility status before formally seeking employment. Additionally, the sustained funding allows for the continued operation of E-Verify for the benefit of U .S. employers and the budget also extends E-Verify authorization for an additional year.
