You cannot file the application at asylum offices. Asylum Offices exclusively conduct scheduled interviews for individuals seeking asylum and for cases related to suspension of deportation and special rule cancellation of removal under the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA).

When an Asylum Office handles a case, it will inform you through the mail if an appointment for an interview on the application is scheduled.

Appointments in Asylum Office

As USCIS handles your case, they may schedule an appointment for you at an ASC. It is crucial that you attend this appointment. Failure to appear can cause delays in your case, requiring certain processing steps to be repeated. Additionally, it may affect your eligibility for benefits and potentially result in the denial of your application or petition. If you are unable to make your appointment, our notice will provide alternative options and instructions.

If you are ill or experiencing any symptoms, we advise you to cancel and reschedule your USCIS appointment. Your appointment will be rescheduled by USCIS without any penalties. Check your appointment notice to reschedule your appointment. Some examples of illnesses and symptoms include:

  • COVID-19
  • A cold or the flu
  • Fever or nausea
  • Severe headaches or body aches
  • Muscle or stomach pain, chest pain or difficulty breathing
