US Embassies and Consulates operate in almost all countries in the world. However, due to certain reasons, they limit or suspend visa services in certain countries. There are some countries that do not have a US Embassy or Consulate for certain reasons. The reasons could be civil unrest, security reasons or other.
Countries where there is no US Embassy or Consulate
- Iran
- North Korea
- Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Guinea-Bissau
The US does not share diplomatic relationships with the countries listed below. Therefore you will not find US embassies or consulates in these countries. There are other options regarding visa services for residents of these countries who wish to apply for US visas.
Iran
For Iranian residents, Immigrant visa applications are processed at
US Embassy Vienna, Austria
US Embassy Ankara, Turkey
US Embassy Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
US Consulate General Frankfurt, Germany (family-based applicants only)
US Consulate General Naples, Italy.
Iranian residents applying for non immigrant visa can apply at any US embassy or consulate that offers non immigrant visa services. However note that if a Consular Officer who cannot speak Farsi is not available, the interview process will be delayed.
North Korea
For North Korean residents, who seek to apply for immigrant or non immigrant visa, there is no specific U.S. embassy or consulate. The US Embassy at Beijing, China normally takes care of the non immigrant application process for those visiting the United Nations in New York.
The US does not have a diplomatic presence in the countries listed below. So you will not find US embassies or consulates in these countries. This simply means that while the US maintains relationships with these countries, US embassies and consulates in other countries take responsibility t maintain diplomatic relations and to conduct bilateral relations with these countries.
Antigua and Barbuda; Dominica; Grenada; St. Kitts and Nevis; St. Lucia; and St. Vincent and the Grenadines
While non immigrant visa applicants resident in these countries mentioned above can apply in person at any US embassy or consulate where they were scheduled an appointment, the US Embassy at Bridgetown, Barbados, takes care of the visa application process for residents of these countries. In addition, the US Embassy at Bridgetown, Barbados take care of immigrant visa services from residents of these countries.
Guinea-Bissau
Applicants of non immigrant visas who are residents in Guinea-Bissau may apply in person at any U.S. embassy or consulate where they were scheduled an appointment, the US Embassy at Dakar, Senegal, takes care of processing visa applications for Guinea-Bissau residents. Also note that the US Embassy at Dakar, Senegal also offers immigrant visa services for residents of Guinea-Bissau.
